My selected Book of the Month is...

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, it captured the feel of pre-war England, a young girl bewildered and confused because of an apparent indifferent mother and the trauma of sexual assault - but what intrigued me was the portrayal of life in Colonial India - the descriptions were wonderful, so much so that I actually want to go to India to see the countryside for myself...

  1. Terrific covers, Helen, Cathy and Tamian!
Thank you for the honourable mention for the ROMA NOVA EXTRA cover. ;-) Covers are always a bit of a collaboration between designer and artist and I enjoyed working on this with Cathy.

    1. And it's easy to get a cover wrong, not so easy to get one right!

  2. Congratulations to the winners and also to the runners up in both categories. The choice is getting more and more difficult, I'm sure!!!

  3. And secondly, thank you for selecting ROMA NOVA EXTRA as Book of the Month Runner Up. Goodness! But Clare Flynn's is a very worthy winner. Congrats to her!

  4. Thank you, Helen, for choosing Kurinji Flowers as Book of the Month and to Alison for her kind words - congrats to her too for being a runner up. I look forward to reading RNE.
It's so great to win a Book of the Month so long after publication (June 2014) and that proves the old publishing model of books being like mayflies is well and truly over!

    1. I especially enjoyed the chapters set in India Clare. I have wondered if Discovering Diamonds should move to reviewing only 'current' novels published in the previous year, but I have decided against. Plenty of other review sites do this, but I particularly like coming across an 'old' book that might have been a little forgotten, dusting it off and giving it a chance to shine again.

  5. I am only just now catching up with emails after a rather chaotic week. Congratulations to the winners and thank you for choosing A Suggestion of Scandal as a runner up in Cover Design.
